Julian Smits, Michaela Weibel, Norbert Herbst

A plant derived moisturizing system boosts skin hydration and strengthens the skin lipid barrier
In the field of corneobiology, the skin barrier has been pointed out to play a crucial role in skin homeostasis. In the treatment of dry skin, it is important to repair and augment the skin barrier in order to achieve positive and long-lasting results. To adequately describe the hydration state of the human skin, a number of complementary measuring techniques are often employed.
Therefore, besides the classic methods of corneometry and the determination of the transepidermal water loss, we tested a moisturizing active and the two industry standards, glycerol and hyaluronic acid, in a PCR-array and in a study using confocal Raman spectroscopy.
In the comparison to glycerol and hyaluronic acid, the active gave the best results regarding skin moisturization and we also found evidence that it stimulates strengthening of the skin barrier.

Estratto acquoso di Triticum vulgare* cosmetic grade
Proprietà biologiche e possibili applicazioni cosmetiche
Giuseppe Palmiotto

Triticum vulgare aqueous extract (cosmetic grade)
Biological activities and potential cosmetic applications
In the last decade functional cosmetics have gained an outstanding achievement mainly due to groundbreaking new formulations with high biological performance. Cosmeceutics represent the fastest growth segment in the skin-care market: an increasing demand for such products comes from consumers and from physicians who routinely use these items in clinical practice. These products lay borderline between cosmetics and pharmaceutics, allowing a useful osmosis of the scientific knowledge between the two fields and double-track applications for some natural active ingredients. Aqueous extract of Triticum vulgare has been long studied and used in topical OTC medication: it contains biostimulines, a heterogeneous group of compounds promoting fibroblast mitosis and migration, de novo synthesis and deposition of collagen and glycosaminoglycans, leukocytes chemotaxis, healing inflammation and speeding re-epithelialization. Cosmetic grade Triticum vulgare aqueous extract, added with 2-phenoxyethanol as preservative, shares these features with its pharmaceutical counterpart. Relying on a robust scientific background it could be included in a wide range of cosmetics and cosmeceuticals, notably to speed up skin’s physiological recovery.

Oral-Talc-Repair
Dentifricio protettivo e stimolante delle difese immunitarie
Diana Dashi, Luigi Rigano

Oral-Talc-Repair
A protective & immuno-stimulant toothpaste
For the elimination of all food residues and reasons of microbial control, the oral cavity is daily treated with more or less abrasive compositions, which modify its pH, subtract protective factors and in general represent a challenge for its physico-chemical equilibrium. Indeed, with increasing age, the natural defense of the mouth noticeably and progressively decrease, with risks of excessive microbial proliferation and inflammation. In this project, we tried to create a toothpaste formula which detaches food debris without aggressive abrasives and harsh surfactants. Moreover, the concept of extended oral care was adopted, with the strategic selection of gum protective agents and immune-stimulant actives.
